Welcome to the
Greater London
Forum for Older People

Greater London Forum for Older People (GLF) was launched in February 1988. The GLF’s major aim is giving older people a voice. This is achieved mainly through the support and development of local borough Forums throughout London.

The local borough Forums/organisations act as umbrella organisations for older people within each borough and are able to speak to local Councillors, the GLA Mayor and Assembly and other regional as well as national organisations, local MPs, their MEPs, health authorities and to other statutory and voluntary bodies on behalf of all represented on their Forums.

Local borough Forums are affiliated to the Greater London Forum for Older People.  The GLF has the support of and gives full support to the major aims of national older peoples’ and retired people’s organisations, but borough Forums are organisations basically dealing with the many and varied problems that arise within a borough. There are now Forums in all the 32 local boroughs and the City of London.

The GLF also...

  •   Gathers information across London on issues of importance and concern and makes representation on behalf of the Forums to over 30 Pan-London and National Policy and Strategic Committees, including the Greater London Assembly and Association of London Government

  • Holds quarterly Open Meetings which debate and action issues of the day.

  • Holds an annual Awareness Week where all 33 Forums campaign on one particular issue with a Question Time session in the Houses of Parliament Publishes and widely circulates a magazine, Senior London.

  • Offers a specific voice through me London Minority Ethnic Elders Group.

  • Holds various events, conferences and training meetings. Holds regularly All Party Panel meetings in the House of Commons.
